Folly | supervisor prof. Dr. Ing. arch. Bořek Šípek
Folly is an artificial object, which serves as an ornament in a natural. It is significantly different from the surrounding. It should be funny but not injudicious, often it is artificial ruin.
For this project, I found a place in village Javorník not far from Liberec in the Czech Republic. In this way is going hiking trail, on which were up to the village view with a popular restaurant in a giant barrel. Currently, we can find here just a tower for mobile operators. This folly based on three main components: History – barrel, view Tourists – penthouse, view Sense of place – color It is made as a ruin of the original barrel, which is adapted for current needs. It serves as a rest stop for tourists and at the same time, it is designed as a view, which is currently missing here, because all view is covered by trees. The view: from one side are parts of barrel designed by that way it is easy to climb up. Surface in this area is anti-slip. On the top of the barrel are components horizontal and with railings for security. The impression is made by a reflexive surface on steel construction, which is changing colour of spectrum. The color depends on catching sun rays that’s why folly looks like a rainbow on the top of the hill. |
